Postcards
This is an early sketch I did after talking with David Schweizer. He mentioned a waterfall of fabric which we really took to the extreme – almost 500 feet used in all. The whiteness held a nice clinical edge compared to the atmospheric elegance inherent in a material like china silk. And by keeping everything white (chairs, tables, the orchestra) it became almost monolithic. It also was so dreamy and surreal that it added a nice contrast for moments such as when Mimi and Robert received a film from their far-away son Walton in a box that was so very hyper-realistic compared to everything else.
